The recruiting blitz in June continues this weekend as college football programs continue to host top targets, with many of those prized recruits aiming to make a decision on their future prior to their senior seasons.
247Sports highlights where some of the bigger recruiting weekends are happening over June 17.
Biggest Recruiting Weekend In Louisville History
Cardinals head coach Scott Satterfield recently told 247Sports “we’re on the cusp of being something great.” Sitting on the 247Sports Composite’s No. 11 recruiting class, this weekend could go a long way towards taking that next step.
Many of Louisville’s high-profile commits return for their official visit, including ace peer recruiter in quarterback Pierce Clarkson, part of a weekend that will see 18 prized prospects come to town to take in the sights on campus as well as the city, the race track, the Muhammad Ali Center and several other things.
The top prospect visiting is the Top247’s No. 1 running back Rueben Owens. He recently named TCU his leader. My 247Sports Crystal Ball is on Texas A&M. But Louisville is a school that should not be slept on going into this visit.
Louisville should also not be slept on for Miami (Fla.) Edison Top247 receiver Nathaniel Joseph. The electric pass catcher has been in steady contact with the Cardinals staff. His decommitment from Clemson this week certainly comes as no surprise to Satterfield and his staff. Now they get him on campus for the first time this week, planning to show him how he will be utilized in the same way another Miami native in Tutu Atwell shined. Louisville has reason to feel good in this recruitment as well.
It’s a big weekend on the offensive line for Louisville. The Top247’s No. 4 interior offensive lineman Madden Sanker returns. I’d wager there isn’t an offensive line coach he’s closer to than Nic Cardwell. The Cardinals have always been in good shape there, same goes for New Palestine (Ind.) High offensive tackle Luke Burgess who they probably lead for. Ditto for Jordan Church out of IMG Academy. Raymond Pulido and Koby Keenum are two others this staff has invested a lot of time recruiting.
Top247 edge rusher Jaybron Harvey recently put out his top five and Louisville has done a terrific job with him, including showcasing a strong engineering program.
Linebacker Jeremiah Telander is a prospect that is at the top of the board regardless of position for this Cardinals staff. They’re in the thick of it with Tennessee and Florida.
Owens isn’t the only electric running back visiting as Louisville so welcomes four-star Dontavius Braswell out of the Peach State. He’s coming off officials to Nebraska and South Carolina.
Texas receiver Kyle Parker could be favoring LSU but Louisville has always been one of his main options.
“It will be the most collection of talent that’s been on campus in Louisville football history in one weekend,” Satterfield exclaimed. “If that doesn’t get you fired up I don’t know what does!”
Elite players taking in USC
Five-stars are flocking to the Trojans campus including the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, the top-ranked tight end Duce Robinson and No. 2 edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei. Mauigoa loved his spring visit to USC, the Trojans are the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for Robinson (Alabama and Georgia a couple others to watch) and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Uiagalelei end up there as well after a couple strong visits in the past (Ohio State and Oregon among others in it).
One of America’s top two-way linemen, if not the best two-way line prospect, Markis Deal returns to campus and he’s really hit it off with USC’s staff.
Other key visitors include Top247 offensive tackle Lucas Simmons, Top247 defensive lineman Edric Hill and four-star offensive lineman Micah Banuelos.
USC has the nation’s no. 15 recruiting class. When looking at average ranking per commit it’s no. 2. This is pound for pound one of America’s top classes to date.
Five stars at Alabama
The Top247’s No. 1 safety Caleb Downs takes his official to Alabama. The Crimson Tide have led at times during this recruitment as they battle Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia.
Five-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola and five-star receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. also head over to Tuscaloosa.
Rounding out the group includes Top247 running back Justice Haynes who has visited several times in the past, Top247 tight end Jelani Thurman, four-star defensive back Damari Brown and athlete Ronan Hanafin who also likes Clemson and Notre Dame.
Top recruits heading down to Texas
The Top247’s No. 1 recruit in New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman five-star quarterback Arch Manning takes his official visit to Austin, his fourth time taking in the Longhorns program during his recruitment. The other major contenders are Alabama and Georgia and Texas has obviously always been considered one of the favorites.
Texas does look like the favorite for Manning’s teammate and good friend in tight end Will Randle.
Other prominent visitors for Steve Sarkisian and his staff include Top247 prospects in cornerback Malik Muhammad, receiver Jaquaize Pettaway, defensive lineman Hunter Osborne, defensive lineman Blake Purchase and two-way standout Mikal Harrison-Pilot.
Texas signed the nation’s no. 5 class in 2022 and look to really get rolling here in 2023.
Massive weekend at Michigan
The Wolverines are hosting a large group of prospects headlined by Top247 defensive lineman Jason Moore (battling Notre Dame, Penn State and Ohio State, Top247 offensive tackle Charles Jagusah (battling Notre Dame, Arkansas and Missouri) and Top247 linebacker commit Raylen Wilson (Georgia has been trending) among others.
The others include Top247 recruits Jacobe Johnson, Jaxon Howard and Enow Etta along with four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring who is rising up the Maize and Blue’s board. Herring or Landen Hatchett could be a good bet as the final interior o-lineman in the fold.
Tyler Thompson is someone Michigan is high on as a pass rusher, offensive tackle Evan Link takes his second visit are a couple other intriguing visitors.
Nothing but four and five stars at Oregon
The recruiting weekend in Eugene is highlighted by the country’s no. 1 defensive line recruit in five-star David Hicks. The Katy (Texas) Paetow standout makes his second visit to Oregon since the spring and the Ducks are battling Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Miami among others.
Top247 receiver Johntay Cook II has the Ducks as a dream school type place. Texas and Texas A&M have had buzz in this recruitment and Michigan is another player.
Top247 defensive back Kayin Lee, Top247 athlete Robert Stafford, four-star defensive lineman Colton Vasek, Top247 quarterback Avery Johnson (Kansas State and Washington other contenders), four-star offensive lineman Logan Reichert and hard-hitting four-star safety Tyler Turner round out the list (battling Oklahoma).
Around the Nation
It’s well documented in this article every weekend Notre Dame is on a quest to sign the Top247’s No. 1 class. Currently sitting atop the standings, they’ll bring in Top247 running back Jeremiyah Love, Top247 receiver Jaden Greathouse (Crystal Ball currently on ND) and Top247 cornerback Josiah Wagoner.
Ohio State is looking to sign a no. 1 class as well and are certainly pacing for the no. 1 receiver class with five-star Brandon Inniss and Noah Rogers returning to campus. I like the Buckeyes for both of them. Top247 safety Joenel Aguero visits and I think they’re the biggest challenger to Georgia for him. Top247 cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt is a player the Buckeyes are high on and OSU is probably the one to beat for in-state athlete Jermaine Mathews although Cincinnati has made a big impression there. Quarterback Brock Glenn takes his official as well.
Penn State has 247Sports No. 5 recruiting class and key targets coming in include five-star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, highly-recruited defensive linemen Derrick LeBlanc and Tomarrion Parker and blue-chip linebacker Tony Rojas (Penn State the Crystal Ball favorite but Georgia charging hard).
Mario Cristobal and his staff welcome in Top247 targets in defensive lineman Jayden Wayne, John Walker and Darron Reed along with tight end Riley Williams. Quarterback Emory Williams is quickly becoming the top passer on the program’s board.
NC State’s official visit weekend begins on Thursday and will include four-star athlete Zack Myers, four-star running back Daylan Smothers, four-star linebacker Stanquan Clark and talented in-state receiver Kevin Concepcion who’s been really high on the school.
Four-star receiver Chris Culliver is the headliner at North Carolina next weekend.
Four-stars making their way to Pitt include Top247 edge rusher Desmond Umeozulu and cornerback Braeden Marshall.
Four-star cornerback Antonio Robinson heads to Wake Forest.
Top 247 linebacker Blake Nichelson wants to visit Florida State.
Top247 quarterback Austin Novosad is a long-time commit to Baylor and returns for his official as he also considers Ohio State. Top247 offensive tackle Isaiah Robinson will be there as well.
A big weekend at Iowa State includes four-star receiver Joshua Manning.
Four-star running back Dylan Edwards will be at Kansas State.
Top247 defensive end/tight end Rico Walker heads to Maryland this weekend.
Four-star defensive lineman Kelze Howard wants to be at Nebraska.
Four-star tight end Jackson Bowers heads over to Washington.
Couple guys to maybe keep an eye on for Arkansas this weekend, safety Christian Ford and cornerback Jeremiah Hughes. The Razorbacks have the 247Sports Composite’s No. 8 class.
Slated to be at Florida is Top247 cornerback AJ Harris, Top247 offensive tackle Monroe Freeling, Top247 defensive lineman Keldric Faulk, Top247 athlete Eugene Wilson III, four-star defensive linemen Kamran James and Kayden McDonald.
The big-timers at Georgia will include five-star defensive lineman James Smith, five-star edge Jaquavious Russaw, Top247 receivers Hykeem Williams (biggest challenger to the Aggies) and Aiden Mizell (I like Florida), JUCO wide out Malik Benson, four -star defensive back Daniel Harris and Top247 offensive lineman Olaus Alinen. Linebacker Whit Weeks also visits coming in high on LSU and Oklahoma.
Four-stars Neeo Avery, Kendrick Gilbert and Anthony Brown will be at Kentucky.
A major weekend at LSU includes five-star receiver Jalen Brown and Top247 recruits in edge/linebacker Tausili Akana, offensive tackles Wilkin Formby, DJ Chester, Kelton Smith, Markee Anderson and Shamurad Umarov.
Top247 defensive lineman Dashawn Womack (Georgia and LSU in there) is one of Ole Miss’s top targets and he’ll be in town and Ahmad Brown is one of their favorite prospects in the Peach State as they battle Clemson there.
Some of Tennessee’s top targets will be in town including receiver Cameron Seldon, four-star defensive lineman TJ Searcy and Top247 linebacker CJ Allen. The Vols have the nation’s No. 12 class.
The Aggies are the one to beat for four-star athlete Adam Hopkins. Other officials include offensive lineman TJ Shanahan, defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett and four-star running back Kaleb Jackson. Five-star quarterback Dante Moore will be there on an unofficial.
