NORTH AUGUSTA, SC — Gavin Griffiths wasn’t the first highly-touted Connecticut prospect to spur the UConn men’s basketball team and take his talents elsewhere, and he won’t be the last.

Yes, Jim Calhoun famously proclaimed “the borders are closed” after taking the job in 1986, and soon backed that up by signing Bridgeport’s Chris Smith. Fact is, while several big-time state players have remained home to play at UConn — from Smith and Scott Burrell to Andre Drummond and Donovan Clingan — several others have crossed the border.
